Naturopathic medicine focuses on the prevention and treatment of diseases by natural means, to stimulate the body’s inherent healing capacity.
Naturopathic doctors apply a holistic approach towards health, through using a number of natural therapies such as diet and lifestyle counselling, prescribing herbal and nutritional dietary supplements, traditional Chinese medicine, and acupuncture to treat their patients.
Naturopathic doctors also known as NDs, or Naturopaths have regulated health care providers in Ontario who may act as your primary or adjunctive health care providers (depending on individualized health conditions) to prevent, diagnose, and treat non-emergent, most common and chronic health conditions through natural therapies.
Naturopathic doctors try to identify and treat the root causes of your symptoms, and to treat you as a whole person, meaning they try to take into consideration the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of an individual.
Naturopathic Doctors try to educate their patients about health conditions, the healing process of a disease, and some disease preventative strategies.
Naturopathic Doctors have studied basic biomedical science and pharmacology, which make them capable to communicate with other health care providers such as family physicians, specialists, physiotherapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, etc. if needed.
Their studies allow them to understand medications’ main indication, the general mechanism of action, common side effects, and possible interactions and contraindications between prescribed medications and dietary supplements.
Your naturopath can also interpret the result of basic diagnostic blood and urine test and imaging, and create an individualized treatment plan based on her interpretation and the result of your naturopathic assessment.
Please note that NDs and medical doctors (MDs) have some distinct differences with regard to their education and their health care approaches.
Conditions that can be managed with collaborative naturopathic medicine include but are not limited to:
Digestive disorders: constipation, diarrhea, gas and bloating, acid reflux
Women’s Health: painful menses, irregular menses, symptoms related to menopause, polycystic ovaries
Cardiovascular health: high cholesterol, high triglycerides
Endocrine Health: Diabetes, underactive thyroid disease
Skin health: eczema, hair loss, acne
Mental health support: insomnia (mild-moderate), Stress (mild-moderate), low mood (mild-moderate)

Meet & greet appointment:
If you are not quite sure if naturopathic medicine would be the right option for you or not, our naturopath provides you with the opportunity to book a 15-minute free meet and greet appointment by phone or virtually prior to your initial assessment.
You are welcome to ask your questions about naturopathy and her general approach to your health conditions.
Please note that no detailed history taking, physical exams, or individualized treatment plan will be provided during this session.
Initial naturopathic assessment (virtual/ in-person):
It usually lasts up to 90 minutes. Naturopathic Doctor, ND takes a detailed full history from you, performs a focused physical exam, and assesses your stress, mood, energy, sleep, and diet.
Then Naturopathic Doctor provides you with her naturopathic assessment and individualized treatment plan by using all the information the Naturopathic Doctor gathered from you and the result of any diagnostic blood tests, or imaging studies if available.
Based on her assessment and your health condition Naturopathic Doctor may refer you to your family physician for further workup if the need arises.
However, Naturopathic Doctor may still provide you with the appropriate naturopathic complementary treatment in those circumstances.
Naturopathic consultation follows up (virtual/in-person)
It usually lasts up to 30 minutes. After your first follow-up, Naturopathic Doctor, ND usually recommends following up visits every 12 weeks. A naturopathic doctor reassesses your symptoms and tries to see if you need any support with your complimentary treatment plan or not.
