When I called in for my bad back, I was easily booked in for the next day. I explained to Angela how I had hurt my back trying to do deadlifts at the gym. She offered me shock therapy and gave me exercises to do at home. I will definitely be going back 🙂

I can't recommend Angela enough for physiotherapy,! I have had a couple of instances of very painful pinched nerves in my neck and back, and each time over the course of a few sessions she has helped relax the muscles and ease the pain. Angela is a very patient and caring person who helps by explaining the science of how muscles and nerves work together. You come away feeling you are in very capable hands. 100%, I would recommend her and will keep coming back myself!

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy uses a process called photobiomodulation. To change the condition of damaged tissue by stimulating cellular metabolism. Thereby accelerating the healing process, a large convex treatment head can be used to compress superficial tissues displacing excess fluid and enhancing laser penetration to deep structures; as light pours into the tissue, photons will be scattered, reflected, and absorbed. Lasers operating near-infrared spectrum from 650 to 1300 nanometers can penetrate deep tissue structures. The light that penetrates the tissue can be absorbed by melanin, hemoglobin, oxyhemoglobin and water. Energy from these absorption events will be dissipated as heat-generating a soothing warmth in the tissue. The primary target for photobiomodulation is the cytochrome C complex found in the mitochondria’s inner membrane.

Cytochrome C is a vital electron transport chain component that drives cellular metabolism as light is absorbed. Cytochrome C is stimulated, leading to increased production of ATP. The molecule that facilitates energy transfer within the cell and ATP Laser stimulation also produce free nitric oxide and reactive oxygen species. Nitric oxide is a powerful vasodilator and an important cellular signalling molecule involved in many physiological processes. Reactive oxygen species have been shown to affect many important physiological signalling pathways, including the inflammatory response. In concert, the production of these signalling molecules has been shown to induce growth factor production. To increase cell proliferation and motility and promote extracellular matrix deposition and pro-survival pathways.

Outside the cell, nitric oxide signalling drives vasodilation which improves microcirculation in the damaged tissue delivering oxygen, vital sugars, proteins, and removing wastes. These mechanisms of action have been proved by over 40 years of laboratory experiments using lasers of minimal power. The recent development of higher power, class 4 systems allows the clinician to efficiently deliver adequate doses of light deep into the tissue to reduce pain, reduce inflammation, and accelerate healing. The advent of class 4 lasers makes it possible to apply the benefits of photobiomodulation superficially and treat a greatly expanded range of conditions by delivering a clinically effective quantity of photons to cells deep within the tissue.

research on effectiveness and success of the therapy is going on. Some patients have felt instant relief while some felt satisfactory relief of pain with this therapy.

While the device does make contact with your skin, it does not radiate heat, sound, or vibrations. It is utterly non-invasive and painless, so most people don’t feel anything at all—at most, a slight tingling sensation as a result of the increased blood flow in the problem area.

Laser is a form of radiation and it stands for “Light amplified by stimulated emission of radiation.” So these are non iodised radiations which help with pain and connective tissue repair.

Although it varies with individuals, the definite time of relief is not yet established and under research. But after 2-4 sessions patients have felt the difference that has lasted long after their discontinuation of the therapy.

Laser is considered a non invasive and non surgical procedure and so there are no definite limitations after the treatment sessions.

It is believed that Laser affects the sensitivity of the nerves by producing pain eliciting agent Bradykinin and endorphins.

There are no major side effects and Laser is non invasive and non toxic and so it is believed to be safe for the body.
